According to analysis of the Government Records Office (GRO) Index there were just over 2700 Boocock births recorded between 1837 and 1911. More than 66% of the births were in Yorkshire, the largest number were recorded in the Bradford Registration District. St Peter’s (Bradford Cathedral) has been the venue form many Boocock Births, Marriages and Burials.

The aim of the Boocock One-Name Study is to research all occurrences of the name, worldwide. The study is at a very early stage, the initial focus is the GRO records and the UK Census from 1841 to 1911.

Only the name Boocock has been registered with the Guild of One-Name Studies but it is already apparent Bulcock/Bullcock, Bocock and Bowcock are variants, any search to find a Boocock event should as a minimum consider these variants.

The Birth Distribution map accessed via the FEATURES link shows birth distribution for Boocock and the variants. It is clear within England there is a geographical element to the distribution of each variant.
